How to Cut Dimension Lumber on a Bandsaw Mill Episode 80
In this episode of Homestead on the Hill I demonstrate how to cut useful, dimension lumber. We are slowly improving our skills with the Bozeman Bandsaw Mill. Each time we use it, we practice cutting actual useful dimension lumber on the mill that I bought from Princess Auto.

    Great vid. If you adjust that chrome L shaped guard in a little it will also stop the blade from hitting the upright log stops if you forget to move them down. I left my yellow blade guide off for now as it was a pain LoL. I find when i put a new blade on its hard to get the top on past the bolts that hold rhe two front covers on andcthe first time i had a heck if a time getting the tracking right again.

      Throughout the winter I was burning piles of branches that I knocked off the lower sections of trees. I also burned off the grassy debris on the ground in select areas. I try to create buffers around the cabin to provide a tiny bit of fire protection.

      Creates a fire break so that if there is a fire on the ground it cannot as easily go up into the trees. When fire goes up into the trees it spreads more quickly and gets exponentially worse.

    I have the same mill and I have had all kinds of accuracy issues with the scale that comes with the mill and cutting lumber. The marks don't seem to give me correctly dimensioned lumber or even close so currently tape measuring and marking each cut. Has yours worked out well or is it spotty as well?

    • @StaceyRobinsmith
      @StaceyRobinsmith Месяц назад

      For us the measurements have worked reasonably well. I haven’t learned how to optimize the logs yet so I’m cutting goofball sizes. But they are basically coming off the mill as we had planned/measured.

    • @BenoitFortin-qx1jc
      @BenoitFortin-qx1jc 2 месяца назад

      Thanks for the information. I saw that you had a problem with the clutch. We had the same problem. I have another problem and maybe you have the solution, the blade turns when the motor is at its slowest. I find it dangerous. There is no adjustment to reduce the engine speed, should I remove tension on the clutch belt???

    • @StaceyRobinsmith
      @StaceyRobinsmith 2 месяца назад

      @@BenoitFortin-qx1jc If drive belt tension is reduced too much, it may start slipping under cutting loads. That will glaze the belt and produce excessive heat in the clutch. It would not stop the blade from turning at idle. Not a solution. The motor idle speed can be adjusted lower (i think there is an adjustment), not sure if that will stop the blade turning but it is worth a try. The blade system turns easily with very little effort. At the current motor idle of your mill the clutch drags enough to get it rotating. Heck, when you stop the motor the blade takes a LONG time to stop on its own. Lots of momentum. Not sure that it is possible to have a stationary blade unless you park it in a log. Hope this makes sense.

    The clutch doesn’t work most of the time on mine and i have to tighten the clutch every couple hours because it constantly loose even after replacing the key that was long enough to bend the washer holding it on to the shaft. Buy a few blade guide bearings because it seems they get blade notched and wear out quickly if you’re cutting with a dull blade.

      I bought the Boseman because I trust Princess Auto the supplier.
